Where every Flybus journey to and from Keflavík Airport begins and ends

BSÍ Bus Terminal, at Vatnsmýrarvegur 10 in central Reykjavík, is the Flybus terminal in the city. Every Flybus coach arriving from Keflavík International Airport (KEF) pulls in here, and every Flybus departing for the airport leaves from here. The journey between BSÍ and Keflavík Airport takes about 45 minutes and covers roughly 50 kilometres (31 miles). BSÍ is about a 15-minute walk from Reykjavík city centre. Arriving at BSÍ from Keflavík Airport

Your Flybus from Keflavík Airport drops you at BSÍ. There is no need to rush for a particular coach — a ticket bought for the airport-to-city leg is flexible and valid on the next available departure, whatever time your flight actually lands.

What happens when you arrive depends on the ticket you booked.

Flybus to BSÍ: BSÍ is your final stop. Collect your luggage from the hold and you are in central Reykjavík.

Flybus with hotel drop-off: You change at BSÍ onto a smaller shuttle, which takes you on to your hotel or to the designated stop nearest your accommodation. Staff at the terminal will point you to the right vehicle. Read more about how pick-up and drop-off works.

The shuttle exists because full-size coaches are not permitted on some streets in central Reykjavík. Smaller vehicles can reach places a coach cannot, and splitting passengers across several shuttles is faster than one coach making every drop-off in turn.

One detail worth noting for the rest of your trip: Flybus stops are blue and pink. The blue and yellow stops marked with an S belong to Strætó, the city bus service, and are not the same thing. Take a moment to register your stop when you are dropped off, as you will want to recognise it again on the way back.

Getting from BSÍ Bus Terminal to Keflavík Airport

Flybus coaches leave BSÍ for Keflavík Airport roughly once an hour, from 04:00 until 22:30, timed to the departing flight schedule. Unlike the inbound journey, you choose a departure time when you book.

As a rule of thumb, take a Flybus that leaves BSÍ about three to four hours before your flight departs. That puts you at the airport with the margin the airport authorities recommend.

If your booking includes pick-up from your accommodation, the shuttle collects you 30 minutes before the coach leaves BSÍ. Be at your stop ten minutes before that.

A note on timing: the 15:30 and 16:30 departures from BSÍ run through Reykjavík's afternoon rush hour. Traffic varies a great deal and these journeys can take longer than the usual 45 minutes, so allow extra time if you are travelling then.

How to get to BSÍ Bus Terminal

BSÍ sits just south of the main city centre hot spot, beside the N1 petrol station and across from the National University Hospital. Reykjavík Domestic Airport is next door, and Tjörnin and its surrounding park (the lake at the heart of the city) is just across the street.

On foot: about 15 minutes from Laugavegur, the main shopping street, and about 10 minutes from Hallgrímskirkja. Straightforward in good weather, less appealing with heavy luggage in a January gale.

By Flybus shuttle: if you have booked a Flybus from your accommodation, the shuttle brings you to BSÍ from your hotel or nearest designated stop.

By city bus: several Strætó routes serve the stop named BSÍ.

By taxi: a short ride from anywhere in central Reykjavík.

Facilities at BSÍ

BSÍ is a working terminal, not just a bus stop, so you can sort out most practical things before you travel. The building is open from 04:00 to 22:00 and the service desk from 06:00 to 22:00.

Luggage storage: lockers are available around the clock, so you can leave your bags and explore Reykjavík hands-free. If you would rather not carry your luggage to the airport at all, BagBee can take it to Keflavík Airport and check it in for you.

Food and drink: Sbarro serves fresh burgers and pizza. Fill your water bottle while you are here, too: Icelandic tap water is free, clean and very good.

Souvenirs: pick up last-minute gifts before you head to the airport.

Toilets: there are toilets in the terminal. There is no toilet on board the Flybus, so this is the place to go before you board.

Tours and travel information: staff at the information desk can book your next day tour and answer questions about tours, activities and getting around Iceland.

Boarding the Flybus outside Reykjavík

BSÍ is not the only place you can join or leave the Flybus. The coach also serves three stops on the way to Keflavík Airport, and you can use them in both directions at no extra cost, with no change at BSÍ needed.

Select your stop as the departure or destination point when you book. The coach only stops at these locations when a booking has been made for that specific stop, so be visible and ready as it approaches.

Waiting at BSÍ between your flight and check-in

A great many Iceland trips involve a few awkward hours: you land at seven in the morning and cannot check in until two, or you check out at eleven and your flight is not until nine. BSÍ is a good place to solve that problem.

Leave your bags in storage at the terminal and walk into the city. You are ten minutes from Hallgrímskirkja and five from Hljómskálagarður park and Tjörnin. Nauthólsvík geothermal beach and Sundhöllin, the city's oldest swimming pool, are both nearby.

BSÍ is also where Icelandia day tours depart, so if your timing works you can step off the Flybus and straight onto a Golden Circle or South Coast departure without going into town at all.

Accessibility at BSÍ

Flybus operates coaches fitted with a wheelchair lift, which means you can travel between Keflavík Airport and BSÍ in your own wheelchair. These vehicles are booked as a separate product and need at least 48 hours' notice, and only one wheelchair space can be booked per booking.
