From Pioneering Coach Service to Iceland’s Trusted Airport Shuttle - Back in 1979, Icelandic tourism looked very different. Only a small number of travellers ventured to the island each year, yet the need for a dependable coach service between the airport and the capital was clear.

Our story

Flybus filled that need, ensuring both passengers and airline crew could travel safely and efficiently to Reykjavík.
Over the years, Flybus has become a trusted part of Icelandic travel, offering modern coaches, flexible scheduling, and a focus on comfort and sustainability.

How the service works

Coaches run between Keflavík Airport and the BSÍ Bus Terminal in central Reykjavík, a journey of about 45 minutes over roughly 50 kilometres. From BSÍ, the Flybus to hotel option continues by connecting shuttle to hotels, guesthouses and official bus stops across the city centre.
Departures from the airport are timed to every arriving flight rather than a fixed timetable, so a delayed landing doesn't cost you your seat — your ticket stays valid for the next coach. Journeys in the other direction run to a published timetable, with departures from BSÍ every 30 to 60 minutes between 04:00 and 22:30.
In Iceland the service is known as Flugrútan. Both names refer to the same coaches.

Responsible travel

The fleet includes modern electric and low-emission coaches, and Flybus offsets the carbon emissions from its operations. Work continues towards greener travel solutions, including renewable-energy vehicles, as part of a wider sustainability commitment across the Icelandia brands.
